BBC Fame Academy picks Oxhill! again! After the success of BBC One’s Fame Academy programme, the Fame Academy Bursary was created in 2003 to allocate the funds raised by public voting. Since then over £1 million has been awarded to young musicians. Competition for the bursaries is fierce, but in October, Alice Mercer found out that she was one of those lucky musicians who had been selected to receive a new instrument. Since then, she has had the enviable task of trying a number of professional level clarinets to select the one that suited her best. Last week, the chosen clarinet arrived and Alice is extremely pleased with her choice. Three years ago, her elder sister Lucy was also awarded an instrument bursary for a top-of-range alto saxophone.
