Garden Club

Umbrellas and stout shoes were the order of the day on our short break to the Arras area of France in May. The trip included a visit to a chateau whose owner had taken on a renovation project of considerable proportions. Another glimpse of a chateau revealed the owner’s passion for collecting porcelain and period art.

The sun shone on our visit to an inspirational garden with many contrasting “rooms”. The owner/designer expounded on the symbolism of each area and showed great professional knowledge of the plants on display.

The extensive Saturday market in Arras reflected the emphasis on fresh local produce with lots of free sampling!

Thanks go to Lilian for the organising of the trip and being continually optimistic about the weather.

Good weather brought out the buyers for the plant sale at the Village Hall. Thanks to the committee and all those who supplied plants there was a great variety to choose from. Raffle prizes went to Reg Gethin, Carol Fox, Gwyn Adams and Ann Saxton. The total taken was in the region of £200.

Enthusiasts, keep the third Thursday evening in August (21st) free for an interesting garden visit and meal. There will be more details of this at the Garden Party at Lilian Welsby’s house on June 19th.
