Vicarage Notes

Thought for the month

We have certainly enjoyed lovely weather in September and if it continues into October - as it has for the last year or two, there will be a “St. Luke’s little summer” as he is remembered on October 18th.

One of those oddities in life is that while the names Matthew, Mark and John have always been very popular, Luke has been way down the list.  I hope there may be a small resurgence as I have baptised 2 Lukes recently.

Luke as a doctor and evangelist presents a picture of a learned and caring man of God.  As the “beloved physician” of Paul, he writes a careful account of the early church in Acts and focuses on the healing ministry of Jesus in the Gospel.  Luke, I suspect, had a real care for the underdog, those whom the rest of society marginalised.

It would be good to have a few more Lukes in our world!

Diary Dates

Please make a special note of the Remembrance Day Service at 9.30 a.m. on November 8th and the Village Christmas Carol Service at 7.30 p.m. on Thursday December 17th.  All are invited and all will be most welcome.

God bless,
