Cold Calling One of our fellow villagers had a 'phone call recently from a company offering to clear up the problems she was having with her computer. It is very rarely a good idea to take up any offers from cold callers; they are normally much more interested in helping themselves than you. In the case of them offering to clear up your computer problems it is even more important – just how did they know that you had any problems anyway? Probably because they managed to load some malware onto your machine and it had done it's nasty work and reported home. The best advice on a cold caller is to hang up immediately. And if you have a computer problem try asking a friend, or go to those people in Shipston. I have not heard ill reports of them yet. Editor |
