Visit Of the Archbishop of Canterbury

You may already have heard the news by now, but I am delighted to say that the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr. Rowan Williams, will be preaching at a special Deanery Pentecost Eucharist: this will be at Tredington Church, at 9.30 am on Pentecost Sunday, May 27th. The Bishop of Coventry, Dr. Christopher Cocksworth, will be celebrating at the Eucharist, and I, along with others, will be leading the service.

The Archbishop is in Coventry for the Jubilee Celebrations at the Cathedral, but he is combining this with a visit to the Diocese, hence his visit to us. This is very much a Deanery service, and members of all our congregations are warmly invited.  The Bishop has given permission for services to be re-arranged as necessary to allow people to attend.

The Deanery ‘Instant’ Choir will be assembled again, under the leadership of Julian Harris, and all who wish are invited to sing with them.  Practices are scheduled for:

Saturday, May 5th, 2-5 pm, Tredington Church

Thursday, May 10th, 7.30pm, Tredington Church

Wednesday, May 16th, 7.30pm, Tredington Church

Friday, May 25th, 7.30pm, Tredington Church.  Other members of the congregation who would like to find out about the music are invited to come to this rehearsal.

We are enormously grateful to everyone at Tredington for their support in this, but we are going to need a great many helpers from across the Deanery: specifically we shall need:

Stewards – lots of them, to welcome, show people to their places, assist with shepherding folk during Communion, assisting the children with taking the collection, and generally being on hand to cope with a very large number of people.

Car park attendants: we will be using the Glebe Field, and will need people to help with directing cars.

Refreshments: we will be using the Rectory garden for refreshments, and erecting a simple marquee there, just in case it rains! We will need helpers, and providers of cakes/biscuits.

Note that neither those providing refreshments, nor those helping in the car park, will be expected to remain there during the service.

Children, to take the collection (probably 12 or more)

For the Communion, Clergy, Readers and those licensed to assist with Communion. (There will probably be 8-10 stations, with a Paten and two Chalices at each).

We may need to borrow some gazebos for overflow seating outside the church.

Finally, if anyone would like to make a donation towards the cost of the flowers, that would be lovely.

If anyone would like to help in any way, please could they contact either their incumbent, or myself, as soon as possible. It is really important that all the adult stewards come to a planning meeting in Tredington Church on Monday, May 14th at 7.30pm.

We are looking forward to a wonderful outpouring of God’s Holy Spirit – please pray that this may be so, and for all those involved.

Every blessing,

Jill
