Boules Competition for the Gardner Cup

Oxhill Village Hall

Nearly 50 people came along to the Village Hall on Sunday, July 15th to join in our French Lunch and Boules Competition to decide the winner of the prestigious Gardner Cup. We were most fortunate, in this disappointing summer, to have one of the few dry days for the event.

The Pate, selection of cheeses and salads were eagerly consumed by the attendees and these treats were topped off with some lovely deserts.

The Boules competition itself was keenly fought with no quarter asked or given. There were many close fought games with skills improving all afternoon with the greater number of games played. The semi-finals were tense, low scoring affairs but 2 teams fought through to the final and they were Ann Marshall’s family and her guest from Chernobyl and the other team ‘T’Others’ was made up of Tony, Pauline, Stewart & Katy.

Ann’s team had endured a challenging route to the final, beating, amongst others the team from Tysoe (previous years winners) and the O’Donnell family but their stamina finally ran out and they were just beaten by T’Others, who were pleased to be presented with the Gardner Cup, although Janet Gardner was unable to be there to present it.

Thanks to all who came along, to George Adams for refereeing and to the committee & partners for all their hard work.
