Garden Club

The Garden Club and guests had a great day trip to Wells in August and packed in tours of the Bishop’s Palace garden and cathedral. Some of us managed to dodge the very heavy showers and even browsed the market – a great day, with inspiration for gardeners.

The Autumn season of Garden Club talks began with lecturer from Pershore College, Hilary Twigg, explaining the mysteries of taking cuttings. The RHS expert demonstrated every aspect of all types of cuttings with her maxim “It’s never too late”.

With the purse strings being strained it makes sense to take advantage of taking cuttings from our gardens, and from others’. Hilary’s down to earth advice was of practical value and her presentation was very entertaining.

So remember “warm roots, cool heads” make for best conditions to nurture new growth. This sounds like good advice for me too with winter approaching!

Watch this space for the results of the photo competition and great thanks to Grenville Moore for judging it.

Dates for the diary:

November 14th – Orchid Culture with Janet James
December 12th – Christmas Party
January 17th – Making alpine troughs from hypertufa, how to plant and maintain them with Tony Cleary.

New members always welcome.
