WOT2Grow Community Orchard

We may have complained about the weather this summer but the raspberries at the orchard have loved it!! The soil is fairly free draining so no soggy roots sitting in puddles in clay. This means we have had a bumper crop, far beyond our predictions, and members have been receiving autumn raspberries in quantity. We have also distributed a lot to three care homes in Kineton, to Brailes School and to various elderly and infirm local residents as we said we would do this in our grant application. Members have also taken raspberries to make jam and even raspberry vodka which sounds very interesting!

The usual grass cutting, tidying up, weeding and pruning has also carried on thanks to members and their families.

Our  bees are doing well and apparently are very settled, feeding is being done each week but the signs are good so next year we might have honey as well as fruit!

We have ordered and reserved our next batch of trees which we will be planting on Saturday and Sunday Dec 8th and 9th from 10 to 12 and 2 to 4.  Our fruit expert, John Edgeley, will be joining us on the 8th at 10:00 to show us how to plant some different trees -  watch out for posters advertising the weekend. However from mid November we have 69 holes to dig to put them in! Any help gratefully received.

Or just come down and see for yourself – we are off the Shenington Road behind the allotments – entrance gates at the far end of the allotments.
