Illustrated talk on Upton House in the 1930s – Friday, 22 February

Here in Oxhill, we are lucky to live close to one of the National Trust’s most popular country houses. You may have visited it, you will have certainly driven past it, but do you really know what it was like to live there in the 1930s and how the house connected with our community?

Come along to a fascinating talk and discover what Lord Bearsted, Upton’s owner and the founder of Shell, hid under his bed, the high spending Lady Bearsted hid from him, and what the butler saw in the greenhouse? This and many more interesting facts, figures and stories will be revealed on the night by Upton House’s Mhairi Peters, Interpretation and Events Assistant, and Michelle Leake, House Steward.

Talk starts at 7.30pm. Cost is £3 per person. Refreshments available to purchase.

Please call Gaynor van Dijk on 680349 for tickets.

Friday Night Event – 15 March

Our ever-popular Friday Night event returns so keep the date clear and more details will appear in the next issue of the News.

Village Hall Committee AGM – Thursday, 25 April

The Village Hall Committee AGM will take place on Thursday, 25 April at 8.00pm and there are opportunities for new faces and new ideas to influence the way that the Village Hall is run and the sort of event that is available. Even if you do not want to stand for a committee post, please come along and enjoy a glass of wine and let us have your thoughts on how you would like to see the Village Hall develop.

This site is maintained by villagers of Oxhill for the benefit of the community and those interested in the history, news and activities that make the village such a pleasant place to live.
