Deanery Synod

The next Deanery Synod is special: we are meeting at St. Edmund’s on Tuesday, February 4th at 7.30pm and we have as our speaker Canon David Porter, who is Coventry Cathedral’s Canon for Reconciliation, now seconded to Lambeth to be the Archbishop’s Canon for Reconciliation.  David has huge experience in the area of Reconciliation: he comes from Northern Ireland and was involved with the peace process there. More recently he has been facilitating conversations about women bishops. He is one of our great experts on the subject.  We will also have Kay Dyer with us, from General Synod, to explain the latest position on the women bishops’ front. It should be a fascinating evening, and all are very welcome.

Deanery Lent Services

One again we are holding out Deanery Lent Services as we prepare for Easter, meeting as before on Tuesdays at 7.30 pm.  This year we are studying the Beatitudes: for those who wish to follow this up in house-groups etc, we are using the book ‘Life attitudes’ by Robert Warren and Sue Mayfield.  Copies will be available at synod and the services, £3 each.

We are endeavouring to use churches which are both warm and accessible: the programme is

Tuesday, March 11th: Tysoe
Living well – Introducing the Beatitudes, Matthew 5:3-10
Revd. Canon Dr Richard Cooke, Principal, Diocesan Training Partnership

Tuesday, March 18th: Shipston
Living Openly, Matthew 5:3,4
Revd. Canon Katrina Scott, Vicar of Willenhall, Dean of Women’s Ministry

Tuesday, March 25th Ettington
Living Purposefully, Matthew 5:5-6
Revd. Stuart Allen, Rector SW7 Benefice

Tuesday, April 1st: Brailes
Living Lovingly, Matthew 5:7,8
Revd. Canon Martin Saxby, Healthy Churches Development Mentor

Tuesday, April 8th: Pillerton
Living Differently, Matthew 5:7-9
Revd. Daniel Pulham, Minister of Stour Valley Baptist Church

Tuesday, April 15th : Long Compton
Eucharist of Holy Week, Ven. John Green., Archdeacon Pastor.

Instant Choirs
is coming back on Saturday, May 17th in Tredington, with Julian Harris. Keep the Date!

Deanery Synod Members

At Annual Parochial Church Meetings this year we need to re-elect members of the Deanery Synod.  Each church has 1,2 or 3 representatives according to the size of their electoral roll. It is an important job: the Deanery Synod is a local focus for the parishes, listening to their views, and forms a bridge between them and the wider church. Members are also ex-officio members of their own PCCs, so the time commitment is three evenings a year (for Synod) plus the PCC commitment. A leaflet to explain everything will be going out to the churches shortly: I would everyone, young and old alike, to think about it.

Blessings,  Jill
