Vicarage Notes

Restoration Project

Thank you for your support at the Lamb and Curry Lunch, and to Lillian, Carol and the social and fund-raising team for all their hard work!

The roof repairs are well nigh complete and the stonework repairs and conservation continue apace. The new stone has been selected from the Great Tew Quarry – a close match to the old Hornton but a better quality. The pointing used throughout is a traditional lime-mix and far better than the potentially damaging cement mixes used in late Victorian and early 20th century repairs. Essential glazing repairs to the east window have been agreed and the contingency part of the contract is being fully utilised! I am confident that with our share of the village lunch in August and the Barn Dance on September 27th we will have raised our part of the cost.

Having written that, it is clear that our reserves will be reduced by general expenses as our fund raising is directed to the restoration. I hope that when all this work is complete we will be still able to attend to the re-decorating and new belfry louvre guards (possibly with swift boxes) as the “icing on the cake”!

Nearly there!

The next Family Service will be in the school holidays, but I may assure everyone, of all ages , a warm welcome on July 27th – 9.30am!

Best wishes and God bless,

Nicholas Morgan
