Vicarage Notes

Dear friends,

All the parishes enjoyed the Queen’s Birthday celebrations in different ways – though I suspect Oxhill’s was the most impressive. Thanks go to Lilian and all the team for decorating St. Lawrence’s and  to Jill & Colin Tucker and team for hosting the super luncheon. Well done, all!

I wonder what the vote will have been.

Ultimately it’s not the political system that matters, but rather the standards of public and personal morality that are being upheld in nations and communities: in the case of our country - the basic Christian values that are at the heart of our society..

A few words such as honesty, generosity, kindness, gentleness, responsibility (for self and for others), and peace should echo around, rather than crime, greed, indifference, cruelty, selfishness, jealousy and violence. No doubt, it’s all been politically fascinating, but, whatever the outcome, is our society going to be a better place?

We have been singing the hymn “I vow to thee my country the service of my love”. The best of our country and the kingdom yet to come are expressed in the last line, “her ways are ways of gentleness and all her paths are peace”

God bless,

Nicholas Morgan
