The Annual Boules Match

We were very fortunate to have a glorious sunny day on Sunday July 17th for the Annual Boules Match. It was fairly certain that nobody had done any training, practice or polishing the boules to get a favourable spin on them. The pitch (is that the right word?) had similarly been neglected for the past year. All of these factors conspired to produce a level playing field.

Stuart had developed a new improved scoring system which meant you couldn’t get eliminated without playing a few games. Indeed, some folks eliminated early were parachuted back in to make up the numbers and stood a real chance of winning.

After a plate of cheese, pate and salad optionally followed by a pudding, we got down to business. Some folk had travelled all the way from Tysoe, and there were youngsters watching and learning, which can only mean that in a few years the oldsters will at last have some serious competition.

A few pictures are better than a thousand words on any subject, and boules is no exception. So here are a few pics possibly arranged in order of youngest first.

You know I thought you were bringing the boules.....

Hmm, so this is what the grown ups do when they go out.

Would you say that’s close?

In a closely fought match, Sarah and Neil from White Hill House prevailed over Jo and Mike (Correction – Ella Collins and Josh King) to clinch the Gardners Cup. Myrtle did the presentation and everyone felt they’d had a really good few hours.
