WOT2Grow - Community Orchard

All the trees at the orchard are doing well, apart from a couple of damsons, and the fruit is growing fantastically! More thinning has been done as well as a summer prune to shorten the heavily laden branches. We had a good crop of black currants, tay and logan berries but the gooseberries were not so productive having taken a year off after the prolific harvest of last year!

Members have received fruit and also we have donated to the Tysoe Lunch Club, who were most appreciative. The care homes have had some fruit too to fulfil our mission with regard to elderly and infirm people.

We managed to water all the trees during a dry spell as well as the raspberries. The water butts really are a boon as are the two we fill with comfrey and nettles to provide feed for the fruit.

The first of the apples are nearly ready to pick as well as a few plums. We will have some Warwickshire Droopers to pick if they are left to ripen on the trees and not removed too early. The Grenadier cooking apples are beginning to fall and they produce the fluffiest apples!

We do hope we get to pick our harvest before they are removed by the badgers, birds and two legged friends!!

The sensory garden has been a picture even if the path disappeared under the growth of the herbs! A very worthwhile project with Kineton Scout Group as it matures and grows.

So things are going well at the orchard but there is always lots to do and lots to learn about! Why not join us and benefit from the harvest
