Stour Singers call out for Tenors and Basses

Now established for more than 40 years, Stour Singers begins rehearsals for its Christmas Concert on 8 September and, to put it bluntly, wants more men! A healthy, active membership of around 90 already has a solid core of nine tenors and eight basses, with room for a few additional recruits to enhance the balance with its secure soprano and alto sections.

An exciting Christmas programme features the baritone Robert Rice, and includes excerpts from Handel’s Messiah, Vaughan Williams’ Five Mystical Songs, Telemann’s Allein Gott in die Hoeh, and carols for audience participation, all supported by the Birmingham Conservatoire Orchestra (the Queen’s Park Sinfonia).

Singing is enjoyable, life-affirming, and proven to benefit both health and longevity. Although the choir has many experienced, able singers, previous experience is not essential, nor is the ability to read music, as choir members are provided with CDs of their singing parts, if needed.

Rehearsals are every Thursday from 7.30.p.m., starting on 8th September, at Shipston Primary School, Station Road, and the Christmas Concert will take place on December 10th in St. Edmund’s Church.

If you would like to join Stour Singers, there is more information on the website: www.stoursingers.org.uk or contact Ian Buchanan, Membership Secretary, on 01608 730323, email ian@buchanahn.co.uk
