WOT2Grow Community Orchard

The orchard is exactly what it says – a Community Orchard – for the community to create and enjoy. It is open every day of the year and is reliant on people within the community to create it. It is also there for the whole community to enjoy so why not go down and see what it is all about!

This last month has seen the building of three very desirable residences at the orchard, well it is hoped that the bees think so! A group met on a couple of occasions to do the construction work and we now have one on-site and ready for it's first occupants. The other two will be installed shortly.

The wet weather has certainly made the grass grow as well as all the trees and plants. The mowers have been working very hard to keep the grass cut in between the spells of rain! The weed population has been attacked on a twice weekly basis and although this seems to be a never ending task it is certainly is paying off. The re-growth is a lot easier to remove and we can see lots of clean soil in the rows. Everyone is welcome to go to the orchard and pull up some weeds!

The recent high winds have caused a little damage to some of the canes and bushes but all are looking good and growing strongly. Every tree is in leaf and whilst some are more advanced than others it is a good sign that they are establishing well. Roll forward a few years when we will be getting great crops from strong trees!
